Ima Cut Some Bitches
My sanity is slowly but most definitely unraveling.  Hurray!  And it has nothing to do with this Adbusters Hipster nonsense or this other nonsense of the Times short-suit style piece sort.  It has almost everything to do with wine and exciting (heh) groupware (and also maybe the alignment of the moon and stars and chakras and/or biorhythms, if you’re into that sort of thing). In an effort...

katiebakes: ninety9: Noon today: 18 items on the home page of Jezebel. 5 are ‘Snap Judgement’, 4 are gossip round-ups/content siphons, 1 is a GM network reprint. So that ‘without airbrushing’ slug really just means that Nick is too cheap to pay for a production artist? Jezebel is increasingly formulaic. Even the EDGY CONTROVERSIAL stories are starting to feel like Mad Libs. Moe Tkacik’s...

Phoebe: "social corrective and ethnographic experiment"?
Me: lol
Me: No idea!
Me: But it is wonderful, regardless!
Me: Also, I think I would like a pair of leather pants.
Phoebe: lol. he mentions Fire Walk With Me.
Me: Yes!
Phoebe: what are you going to do with the leather pants?
Me: Which makes me love him even more than I did before.
Me: I haven't thought that far ahead.
Me: Wear them somewhere, sometime.
Phoebe: ah.
Phoebe: the other day i was looking at such amazing shoes.
Phoebe: and then i realized i had nowhere to wear them to.
Phoebe: and then I had a, "did I seriously just think that?" moment.
Phoebe: and it was weird
Me: lol
Me: At least you didn't buy them and decide to find somewhere to wear them.
Phoebe: ...did you just buy leather pants in the course of two minutes?
Me: Surprisingly, I have not.

ugh.
juliaallison: This is slightly different than before, which was an emotional (almost hysterical) reaction. It goes deeper than that; it’s not a response to a particular post or blog or article. It’s just something that’s been building for a while - a very un-Julia weariness, an uncomfortable level of cynicism & apathy, and, most surprisingly, (sit down) an increasingly urgent desire for...

I was flipping through August’s Vogue while cleaning my room, and stumbled across some sort of advertorial nonsense about makeup or some such featuring Tinsley Mortimer. My first thought was, “Oh, Tinsley Mortimer.”  My second was, “Shit, should I be more concerned that I’m flipping through Vogue or that I’ve just recognized Tinsley Mortimer?”

Me: I'm going to go have a cigarette.
Phoebe: heh
Phoebe: ommmmg jealous.
Me: I WISH WE COULD HAVE A CIGARETTE TOGETHER.
Phoebe: I KNOW. ME TOO.
Phoebe: OR LIKE THIRTY FIVE.
Me: YES.
Phoebe: give or take.
Me: We would be those bitchy people that just stand around smoking and judging people.
Me: Actually, we are those people.
Phoebe: hahaha yes.
Phoebe: but.. distantly?
Me: But together, we would be like the MEGAZORD OF THAT.
Phoebe: YES.
Phoebe: surrounded by this bubble of smoke and, um. confusing metaphors.
Phoebe: so that we would be cryptic enough that no one would really know we were talking about them.
Phoebe: but everyone would fear it anyway.
Phoebe: etc.

The New Old Gays
doree: My Observer article this week: These days, the young gays of Williamsburg and the East Village—the ones who wear pointy shoes and tight cutoff shorts, who studied queer theory and dabbled in heroin at Sarah Lawrence or Bard or Wesleyan, hang out at bars like Metropolitan and Sugarland in Williamsburg or the Phoenix and Eastern Bloc in the East Village, and listen to Chromeo and Girl...
