The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle—featuring Jennifer Saunders as a Jerry Springer/Ricki Lake-type talk show host with Oprah aspirations—is so very worth watching. There is her gay husband. Her transgendered publicist. Miranda Richardson as her frazzled, shouty producer. It is no AbFab, but it is more biting than Clatterford.
My affection for The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle is, if not well, then both obnoxiously and irritatingly documented (in a year, I will probably say the same thing about my Glee “analysis”).
In a similar vein, I’ve recently watched Sensitive Skin, and I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely not Absolutely Fabulous, but it gave Joanna Lumbley a chance to show more range and a bit more subtlety. Plus, the soundtrack uses a lot of Cat Stevens, and uses it well (and that’s apparently a *thing* for me…Christ, I love that T-Mobile commercial).
