And it was one of the first times that I listened to music that way and thought, like, “Wow, I can imagine identifying with this, even though I don’t,” because I was somehow once close enough to that world where I could see it.

Random Rules: Amanda Palmer | The A.V. Club
I’ve been trying to find a way to articulate why I like Avril Lavigne, and to a greater extent, a decent portion of more-mainstream music. This is exactly it. Sometimes, you just totally feel like that frustrated, suburban 13-year-old.
