Are we really that surprised that Ugly Betty has been cancelled?I

I mean…really? When we think about it?

I watched the first season, maybe the second, and it was cuteish, but in a small doses, cloying, sugar high sort of way. And it was kind of vaguely culturally relevant (as part of that short-lived Devil Wears Prada-inspired national fascination with fashion “journalism”), even. But fundamentally it was just a shiny bauble and can we really be that surprised that we’ve since been distracted by newer, shinier (and less saccharine) baubles?
