The weave was fun while it lasted, but it was time to go…after only four days. I am not accustomed to elaborate hair care routines, and not that it really made it all that more elaborate, but I shampoo and towel dry aggressively (because I am impatient), and pieces kept falling out and then I had to glue them back in and really, at this point in my life, weave glue shouldn’t be a staple in my man-bag.

So now I’ve gone grey.

You’re welcome! Red is so hard to get right and then maintain. I got to some really interesting shades of awful (purple, salmon, magenta) when I was trying for red.

I find it insulting. It is a gross misunderstanding of history.

Popular culture is by its very nature cool.

Popular culture knows no scruples. She flows through history inert and unerring. Leaving behind the drowned corpses of naysayers in her wake.

You should never feel embarrassed or guilty about popular culture because all pop culture is part of history. And history is never wrong.

The Vampire Diaries is like crack. It’s left me unable to form coherent thoughts other than OHMYGODSOGOODIDON’TEVENKNOWWHYILIKEITURGHWANTMOREABSANDJAWSOMG!!!

I don’t know what this is. I shouldn’t like it. It isn’t even that good! Except it really, really is?

The plotting and the pacing are ambitious in a way that I haven’t really seen since the first season of Alias, with each episode bleeding (ahem…) into the next and such an enormous amount of stuff covered in only twenty-two episodes that you’re left with whiplash at the end. And all of the other numerous similarities that I hope I wasn’t the only one to notice?

Also, did David Anders get fat? Not fat fat, but like retaining water fat? Or was that just me who saw that?

I’ve just started And The Heart Says Whatever and after having read only the introduction, I have a few thoughts! (Of course I do.)

Presented as a list, because they’re very tiny thoughts.

I really need to stop buying books at the pseudo-chain bookstore that I’ve recently been frequenting (because it’s the only bookstore near the only H&M within Pittsburgh’s city limits). Nothing is shelved in any way that makes any logical sense, and the shelves are laid out in a way intended to encourage browsing rather than finding. Which can make sense! But not at this store. The last book I bought there was Kelly Cutrone’s If You Have to Cry, Go Outside (which…I know) and it was shelved with the new age-y meditation books. I suppose I can kind of see that, but only kind of. And the Heart Says Whatever was shelved in the business biography section. I can see absolutely no sense in that, and they’re now going to find somewhere new to place it.
It’s hard to describe precisely what it is that Emily Gould does and where precisely one should find her book in a bookstore unless you’re talking to someone familiar with her. The clerk was not.
The way the cover is cut bothers me. I appreciate the intent! But it’s incompatible with the way I hold paperbacks (while obsessively trying to avoid breaking the spine). This was an important point.
Emily Gould looks really pretty on the back cover.

I’ve inexplicably been watching Cybill this week. Which…I don’t know? It’s kind of good, in that mid-90s vaguely Absolutely Fabulous-esque sort of way? I apparently watched it almost religiously when I was little because I remember nearly every episode. Which is really very weird, and probably a fairly accurate indicator of…things.

After watching this week’s 30 Rock, I decided to watch more Cybill (instead of doing actual important things), and happened upon this reference. It’s not at all surprising that 30 Rock is referencing another television show. I mean, really! You start to loose track five minutes in, but this seems obscure! (In a good way.)

So I made a video clip.

Which has taught me that I hate making video clips. (As a result, the quality is awful.)

It would maybe also be helpful to know that Peter Krause’s character in Cybill is called Kevin. Because that’s really what makes it a reference, and not a rip-off.
